SURREY, B.C. -- Anne Beck will lead the girls’ program at Unity FC’s Winter Combine, December 28–30 at Cloverdale Athletic Park in Surrey.

The first-team assistant coach at SC Sand in Germany’s 2. Frauen-Bundesliga will work directly with players through technical and tactical training, small-sided games and on-field feedback. The three-day Combine gives players an opportunity to develop their game and showcase their abilities, with visiting coaches assessing players for potential training invitations in Germany.

Playing, Coaching and Player Development

Beck developed through SC Freiburg’s youth academy before progressing to the club’s second women’s team. A defender, she subsequently represented FC Freiburg-St. Georgen from 2017 to 2024 and Karlsruher SC during the 2024–25 season.

She joined SC Sand in summer 2025, becoming a leadership figure within its Regionalliga team and making her 2. Frauen-Bundesliga debut that August. She was appointed first-team assistant coach in July 2026.

Alongside her club role, Beck works in coach education and talent development with the South Baden Football Association. Her previous experience includes work with the Baden Football Association and coaching within the DFB’s regional talent-development system.

Beck holds UEFA B and B+ coaching licences and is working toward her UEFA A licence. Her academic background includes bachelor’s and master’s studies in sport and chemistry.

For Combine participants, she brings experience across several stages of the game—from academy development and youth assessment to senior competition and the education of coaches.

SC Sand’s Canadian Connection

SC Sand also has a history of welcoming Canadian players, including one whose football journey began in Surrey.

Isabella “Bella” Roque joined the German club in 2022 after representing Surrey United and the Trinity Western University Spartans. A Surrey native and Holy Cross Regional High School graduate, Roque competed for Sand during the 2022–23 season in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga.

Before signing, Roque appeared as a trial player in a friendly against SC Freiburg. SC Sand’s announcement highlighted her pace and ability to contribute on the right flank. Her move provides a local example of a player progressing from Canadian club and university football into competition in Germany.

Other Canadians to represent SC Sand include national-team goalkeeper Erin McLeod and striker Cecilia Way. Way joined for the 2024–25 season after her performances with Mainz in Germany’s Regionalliga earned her an opportunity in the second division.

Those players reached Sand through different routes and at different stages of their careers. Their experiences form part of the club’s Canadian connections, independently of Beck’s appointment to its coaching staff.

A Club With Top-Flight History

Based in the Willstätt community of Sand in southwestern Germany, SC Sand has competed in both of Germany’s leading women’s divisions.

The club played in the top flight in 1996–97 and again from 2014 to 2022. It reached consecutive German Cup finals in 2016 and 2017 and currently competes in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga.

Beck’s involvement in the Winter Combine gives players in Surrey an opportunity to learn directly from a coach working within that football environment.

Develop Your Game. Show What You Can Do.

Unity FC’s Winter Combine takes place December 28–30, 2026, at Cloverdale Athletic Park in Surrey for players ages 12–17. A dedicated goalkeeper program is also included.

Players will train, receive direct feedback and apply their learning in game situations. Potential invitations to train in Germany depend on the visiting coaches’ assessments.
