SURREY, BC - Unity FC is proud to announce that Jenaya Robertson, one of the club’s standout players, has signed with the Northern Super League's Calgary Wild FC. This signing not only marks the next step in Robertson’s career but also symbolizes the rising tide of Canadian talent ready to leave their mark in Canada's newly launched women's pro league.
A Dream Realized: Professional Soccer in Canada
Jenaya’s journey from grassroots soccer to signing with Calgary Wild FC marks a significant moment in her career—and for Canadian soccer. “It feels a bit surreal that we now have a professional women’s league on home soil,” she says. “From a young age, I dreamt of the opportunity to play pro in Canada and never really knew if it would be a possibility. But it’s finally here and I can’t wait for the league to kick off and be a part of the exciting growth of women’s football in this country.”
Growing up in Delta, Jenaya’s aspirations always included playing at the highest level, and the launch of the professional league gives her the opportunity to live out that Canadiandream. “There is so much talent here and it’s fantastic to see it being recognized and celebrated in teams across the league,” she adds.
Unity FC and League1 BC: A Launchpad for Professional Opportunities
Jenaya’s path back to professional soccer also involved playing crucial minutes for Unity FC in 2024, where she remained active in a competitive environment. “Unity FC and League1 enabled me to continue training and playing with top coaches and players who were hungry to pursue excellence,” she says. “It has shown to be a great league for players to prepare for their university seasons or those who want to continue playing competitively after their varsity careers. Having a league like this helps bridge the gap to the next level.”
Leverage from Experience: European Lessons Shaping Her Canadian Future
Having previously played professionally in Europe, Jenaya brings invaluable experience to Calgary Wild FC. “Alongside my varsity career at Trinity Western University, my experiences overseas have continued to shape the player I am today,” she explains. “I was exposed to different tactics and playing styles that forced me to adapt quickly. You learn a lot about yourself when you jump outside your comfort zone.”
Her time in Europe taught her how to adapt to new environments, cultures, and languages—skills she’ll carry with her as she starts this new chapter in Canada. “Adjusting to new environments can be a challenge, but also a place of growth,” she reflects. “I’m grateful for all the opportunities and challenges I faced along the way. It is exciting to have the opportunity to now play in Canada and bring with me so many valuable things I have learned throughout this journey.”
Finding the Right Fit: Why Wild FC?
Jenaya’s decision to join Calgary Wild FC wasn’t just about playing professional soccer—it was about aligning with a club that shares her values. “I am thrilled and honoured to join the Wild. From the moment I met with the leadership team, I knew this club was trying to build something special,” Jenaya says. “Someone once told me, it’s not always what you do, but who you do it with that makes an experience so much richer. This is a true testament of all the people working so hard behind the scenes at the Wild.”
This partnership is not just about the game—it's about building a culture of change on and off the pitch. “To help build something alongside others who want to make a difference has made this a very easy decision,” Jenaya says, expressing her excitement to get to work with both players and staff.
A Full-Circle Moment at the Unity FC Winter Showcase
Jenaya’s participation as a support coach in Unity FC’s first youth showcase event at the start of January was a full-circle moment for her. “It was amazing to see the next generation of players aspiring to take the next step in their soccer journeys,” she says. “Dream big, work hard, and persevere because if you dedicate yourself and stick with something long enough, anything is possible.”
As someone who has walked that journey, Jenaya's advice to younger players is simple yet powerful: “Hurdles and obstacles are all a part of the journey, but it is how you channel those experiences that make all the difference. All the extra work and touches you put in outside of team training will help take your game to the next level. Believe in yourself and chase your dreams!”
A New Chapter Begins
As Jenaya begins her professional career with Calgary Wild FC, we couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments. Her journey is a testament to the hard work and support she received from Unity FC, her teammates, coaches, and the broader Canadian soccer community. We look forward to watching her shine in the Northern Super League and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.
